UT ATHLETICS STRUGG-A-LING OPEN THREAD

The BON Authors are pretty embarrassed about the state of affairs at Bellmont. Are you?

Recently I witnessed the Iraqi Information Minister of LHN, aka Lowell Galindo, doing what I can only guess you could call curls with some chains1 and thought to myself, “wow, that has got to be the saddest commentary yet on the current state of UT Athletics.”

But my fellow BON authors have told me that’s far from the worst they’ve seen.

A.J. Hooper- I told some friends about the articles saying Texas has a shot at the Big 12 title.

Their response?

Everyone just laughed.

Sumedh- “I didn’t know we won a national championship in 2005!” — woman sitting next to Wescott and I at the open practices this Spring.

Curry- This morning when I found out that I was blocked by Coach Brown2 after tweeting him a question after the OU game about how much they practiced defense.

How about you?

So as we suffer through yet another insufferable off-season awaiting the start of what we pray will be a resurgent football season, why not give misery some more company with commentary, signs and other circumstantial evidence that UT Athletics truly has hit rock bottom.

'I can't see Rooney playing for anyone other than Manchester United …

The former South Africa international remarks that it would be “very strange” to see the forward in a different shirt and hopes that new boss David Moyes will carry on winning

EXCLUSIVE
By Juliet Bawuah

Former Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune feels that it would be “very strange” to see Wayne Rooney playing for another club. As exclusively revealed by Goal, the former Everton star is “hell bent” on leaving Old Trafford, adamant that he will not work with incoming manager David Moyes. Fortune finds it hard to picture the England international wearing any other club shirt, however, and hopes that he can be convinced to stay.

“I can’t see Rooney playing anywhere else,” he told Goal. “Apart from Manchester United, he signed from Everton when David Moyes was the manager so it will be very strange to see him leave and I don’t know if all the hype will come down to contract talks because that’s how it seems lately but, for him, I hope he stays.

“He is a great player, he has done fantastic with Manchester United and it would be very strange to see him in another jersey than Manchester United’s.”

Fortune believes that the United squad, fresh from winning their 20th English league title this season, have perhaps been underappreciated, particularly after their narrow failure to win the Premier League in 2011-12. “This is not been the best United squad yet they came back and won the league,” the South African remarked. “It is never easy and people forget they lost the league last season on goal difference with the amount of money Manchester City spent. “I do believe the club needs to win a Champions League in the next few years but the first goal of the new season is to retain the Premier League title and then look at winning Champions League.”

Asked what Moyes’s first priority in the job should be, Fortune replied: “Just keep wining and playing good football and, if he continues from where Sir Alex Ferguson left off, I think he will be there for a long time. “Obviously, he has got his own way of doing things but I hope, at the end, it will come down to winning games. He is a good manager, he has walked into a club with great history with good crop of players and everything is possible for him.

“I’m sure he is a hungry manager.

He has got a great record at Everton and now, with world-class players, I’m sure he will do much better in terms of winning trophies but he just has to keep winning.”

ICC pull umpire Rauf from Champions Trophy

Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf1 has been withdrawn by the ICC from officiating in the upcoming Champions Trophy in England following media reports that indicated he was under investigation by Mumbai Police.

“In the wake of reports that the Mumbai Police are conducting an investigation into Asad Rauf’s activities, we feel that it is in Asad’s best interests as well as those of the sport and the event itself, that he is withdrawn from participating in the ICC Champions Trophy,” Dave Richardson, the ICC chief executive, said in a statement on Thursday.

The ICC did not mention what the Mumbai Police were reportedly investigating Rauf for, and said it had no further comment to make. Rauf has been in India, officiating in the IPL, and so the PCB said it had “no role to play” and “nothing to do” with the development.

“He Rauf is an ICC umpire and was officiating in an Indian event with the consent and approval of the ICC, and whatever has happened it’s on Indian soil,” the PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf said. “We were only informed of his withdrawal by the ICC. We have no clue about what has happened and we have no control.

“In our next board meeting we are going to formulate a code for umpires and anyone found violating the code will be punished.

So if BCCI wants our support we are happy to extend our help to them.”

All the Chelsea transfer stories from papers and websites

Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle is confident of making a move to Chelsea this summer. The Germany striker, 22, claims Leverkusen s 1-0 win at Hamburg was his final game for the club.

I found this on the Sky Sports website. I really not sure about this as it is dragging out more and more and getting rather boring.

I don t mind signing him we just have players of his quality already or close to that quality (Piazon,KDB, maybe Marin)

Real Madrid may sack Jose Mourinho with two games still to play in the Spanish season as relations with the club s directors hit a new low following the defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final.

I found this in El Mundo(Spainish Paper). With Carlo Ancelotti leaving PSG I am now unsure as to who will manage Chelsea as Carlo has got the Real job by the looks of it but it leaves Mourinho with a decision. Go where he is loved by fans and managers or go to a new league and get another title?

I hope he goes with his heart and not his wallet.

Jose Mourinho is leaving Real Madrid and his switch to Chelsea will not cost Roman Abramovich a penny.

This is everywhere. So is Mourinho coming home or is he going somewhere. I think Roman will try even harder to bring Jose in as he can now get him without having to buy out his contract.

Jose Mourinho is out to hijack Arsenal s 25million move for Stevan Jotevic.

I found this in the Daily Star.

Im not sure, yes this guy is amazing but I don t know whether he is a Striker, Winger or a Number 10 player. He is skillful, elegant and fast, he reminds me a lot of Torres in his Liverpool days and he can make things happen with one touch of the ball.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be monitoring Chelsea s David Luiz, 26, who may not be wanted by Jose Mourinho if he returns to Stamford Bridge.

I found this in the Daily Mail. Hope he doesn t leave he is a quality player and is an integral part of the team and maybe possible a future Captain of Chelsea.

Incoming Manchester United boss David Moyes is keen to beat Chelsea to the signature of Southampton s 17-year-old full-back Luke Shaw.

I found this in the Daily Mail.

I hope Moyes goes for Baines and then sell s Evra, we want Shaw and think he is the long term replacement to Cole.

Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard, 34, has hinted he would like to extend his Stamford Bridge stay until 2016.

I found this in the London Evening Standard. I certainly think he can play until he s 37 I hope he stays and retires here, he has been a wonderful servant to the club and a real football icon for Chelsea fans around the world.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims forward Cristiano Ronaldo, 28, could be heading to Chelsea.

I found this on the talksport website. I don t think this would be a good pruchase yes he is one of the best players in the world but his ego is what would annoy me and I do believe he still has that place in his heart for United like Drogba has for Chelsea, they wouldn t play for another team in the EPL if their life depended on it.

West Ham say they are confident of being able to sign 20-year-old forward Romelu Lukaku from London rivals Chelsea.

I found this in the Metro.

I don t think he should move to West Ham on loan he either needs a team with European football to play for or stay here at Chelsea, I do believe and move to West Ham would be a step-back from his time at West Brom.

Napoli are believed to want Chelsea s interim manager Rafael Benitez and striker Fernando Torres.

I found this in the Daily Mirror. I don t mind Rafa going he has done his job for us at Chelsea. I don t want Torres to go thought I feel like he still has something to prove the world while at Chelsea before moving on.

Chelsea have lodged an inquiry with Galatasaray about 20m-rated Turkey striker Burak Yilmaz, 27.

I found this in the Guardian.

I m not sure about this move, yes he is a quality player and has a good goal scoring record.

8 goals in 9 games in the Champion League which is very good. I wouldn t mind him. Drogba said he is a very good player so he must be half decent if Drogba say s he s good.

Cricket Australia considers AFL tribunal model

David Warner’s privately convened code of conduct hearing for his recent Twitter indiscretions may be the last of its kind, as Cricket Australia consider adopting a system whereby disciplinary charges against players would be heard in forums open to public scrutiny via the media.

Adrian Anderson, the former AFL executive, is due to submit his report into CA’s integrity and disciplinary policy management in June. ESPNcricinfo understands that one of its key recommendations may be to call for the opening of disciplinary hearings to outside observers after the fashion of the AFL tribunal.

This means a hearing like Warner’s would be open to media reportage, a significant break from cricket’s traditional policy of keeping board matters, including the disciplining of players, decidedly private, opaque affairs.

It would also be a marked departure from the convention followed by most cricket boards and also the ICC, which does not permit public access to code of conduct hearings presided over by match referees, nor the appeal hearings that may subsequently eventuate.

Anderson is also expected to recommend that CA’s code of conduct procedures and protocols for hearings be tightened, following a summer in which the consistency and transparency of the current system was called into considerable question by a series of incidents during the BBL in particular.

Standards of on-field behaviour during the event were allowed to lapse, culminating in the ugly bust-up between Shane Warne and Marlon Samuels at the MCG. That incident and its handling in a pair of seemingly contradictory and indecipherable code of conduct verdicts did not sit well with a majority of players and others.

Anderson is likely to call for a new structure to manage integrity and disciplinary matters, moving the BBL chief and CA head of commercial operations Mike McKenna away from a role that currently has him holding both the commercial and disciplinary keys for CA – an apparent conflict of interest.

Despite its novelty in cricket, this would not be the first time CA has toyed with subjecting its disciplinary procedures to public analysis.

The CA chief executive James Sutherland has previously stated his preference for public hearings and, as far back as 2002, player contracts included a clause allowing the board to decided whether or not disciplinary hearings would be heard in camera or with the media present.

That change had followed Steve Waugh’s complaints that he was not allowed to publicly state his defence to an ICC charge he faced in the 2001 Boxing Day Test against South Africa for questioning Darrell Hair’s decision to give him run out without referring to the third umpire.

Nevertheless, the major obstacle to public hearings would appear to be the Australian Cricketers’ Association, whose chief executive Paul Marsh is believed to be skeptical about the necessity of the concept.

Cavani, Fernandinho & Isco head up Manchester City's 140m …

The Premier League runners-up are preparing for a post-season restructuring ahead of Manuel Pellegrini’s arrival, which sources say will “stun English football”

SPECIAL REPORT
By Greg Stobart

That Roberto Mancini’s name barely made mention as the Manchester City board met at the club’s Knightsbridge hotel on the evening before the FA Cup final a fortnight ago said it all. With, or as we now know without, the Italian, those in charge – real charge – at the Etihad Stadium, have plans that extend far beyond the sacking of their beleaguered former boss over the coming months. At the heart of those plans: a ‘ 140 million summer shopping spree that will “stun English football”, say sources.

In fact, it is being described as “the biggest summer in City’s recent history” by those in and around the club.

From Abu Dhabi to Ardwick, City are set to enter a period of transformation that will change the footballing landscape far beyond Manchester forever.

Edinson Cavani, Fernandinho, Isco, Thiago Alcantara, Jesus Navas and Diego Novaretti make up City’s stellar six-man shortlist drawn up in a series of meetings between director of football Txiki Begiristain, chief executive Ferran Soriano, football administration officer Brian Marwood and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who reports directly to Sheikh Mansour and the Abu Dhabi owners who have bankrolled the club into the upper echelons of the English game. Yet the club’s disastrous title defence this term, which saw them finish 11 points behind champions Manchester United and Roberto Mancini sacked within two days of their humbling FA Cup final defeat to Wigan, has accelerated work behind the scenes as the club prepare to face Chelsea in a St. Louis friendly in the early hours of Friday morning.

Manuel Pellegrini confirmed his departure from Malaga on Wednesday ahead of his expected move to City to replace Mancini, who sent flowers to City staff at the club’s Carrington training ground this week and ensured his personal belongings and bicycle were removed from the complex.1 Meanwhile, amid the farewells taking place in Manchester, the ‘ 63m-rated Cavani remains the club’s number one target this summer. The striker has already been the subject of talks between City and the Uruguayan’s club Napoli, which were confirmed by the Serie A side’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis on Tuesday. The Italian club are keen to include Edin Dzeko – who City value at ‘ 26m – in any deal for Cavani but Goal understands that the Bosnian is likely to wait for confirmation of Robert Lewandowski’s expected switch to Bayern Munich before committing to any move, as he is keen on a return to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Malaga attacker Isco has also told City that he will make the move to Manchester provided the almost inevitable completion of Pellegrini‘s switch to the Premier League outfit goes through in the coming weeks, with the 21-year-old Spaniard a long-term target despite his recent new contract almost doubling his previous release clause of ‘ 20m to ‘ 35m. Begiristain, although a fan of Isco, is unwilling to pay more than ‘ 26m for his services and reports surfaced late on Wednesday suggesting that Real Madrid were in advanced talks to sign the playmaker.2 Yet such is the depth of City’s planning that every targeted position has two or three names to cover any potential shortfall in the market this summer.

Isco‘s compatriot Jesus Navas has also hinted that he would be keen to link up with Pellegrini this summer and is seen as a suitable, if not like-for-like, replacement for Samir Nasri, who is being pursued informally by Paris Saint-Germain. However, much hinges on who replaces the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti in the French capital before the Qatar Investment Authority sanction a move for the former Arsenal star, whose publicly-strained relationship with Roberto Mancini came to the fore this term.

City, meanwhile, remain in deadlock with Shakhtar Donetsk, who want ‘ 48m for Brazilian star Fernandinho, who took to Twitter on Monday expressing his desire to join the Premier League runners-up.

As with both Isco and Jesus Navas, club officials are reluctant to spend much over the ‘ 23m mark but expect that the box-to-box midfielder’s attempts to manoeuvre an exit from the Ukrainian outfit could see them soften their stance over his departure.3 A move for Thiago Alcantara is also being considered by the club, after Marwood met with the Barcelona starlet’s father, Mazinho, in secret talks in Catalunya in 2012. They typically face stiff competition from neighbours United in the pursuit of his signature, however, with a fee of between ‘ 17.5m and ‘ 23m thought to be enough to convince the Spanish champions to sell their out-of-favour midfielder.

With concerns over Financial Fair Play regulations at the forefront of the minds of City’s top brass, talks have also addressed recouping up to ‘ 47m this summer through player sales and salary savings to fund their transformative summer splurge, coupled with the ‘ 23m paid by AC Milan for Mario Balotelli in January still sitting in the club’s coffers. The most high-profile and lucrative departure alongside Dzeko and Nasri is Carlos Tevez, whose annual salary comes to approximately 6.5m. The controversial Argentine is a target for Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Monaco. Kolo Toure, who is nearing ever closer to a move to Liverpool, pockets 115,000-a-week at City and will likely be replaced by Mexican-based Argentine Diego Novaretti, while the club’s contributions to the 90,000-a-week wages of Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge are also set to come to an end this summer.

The futures of Scott Sinclair, who is being monitored by Everton, Newcastle and Southampton, and Javi Garcia, who was the first player sold by Pellegrini on his arrival at Real Madrid in 2009, are also unclear.

Both have been made available by City after failing to impress this term.

While Begiristain is at the forefront of the club’s player recruitment drive and salary restructure, chief executive Soriano has been working closely with the club’s swelling commercial department, which will hire a further 20 staff in an office in Mayfair over the next few months. The announcement of City’s partnership with the New York Yankees and subsequent move into MLS with New York City FC is, according to sources close to the club, simply the start of the club’s efforts to spread their brand across Asia, the USA and South America as the club follow the lead of United in capitalising on the Premier League’s vast global appeal. Meanwhile, the club are continuing work on their vast Eastlands site, so large that it covers two postcodes in the Ardwick and Openshaw areas of Manchester.

City’s 100m Etihad Campus, which has been designed to attract and develop the best young talent on the planet, is a year from completion, while the club are in consultation with the local community regarding a 6,000 seat expansion of the Etihad Stadium’s south stand ahead of the 2015-16 season. Goal understands that the club are also considering undertaking further work on the north stand with a view to surpassing Arsenal’s 60,361 capacity at the Emirates Stadium and becoming second only to Old Trafford as the largest club ground in the country. This summer will also see City continue to upgrade the middle tier of the stadium, improving seats and hospitality suites as the club look to attract a greater number of corporate clients to the club.

Quite simply, the pace with which City are operating this summer both on the pitch and off it speaks volumes for the club’s desire to not only catch their city neighbours but ultimately surpass them and become a genuine major player among the world’s more powerful clubs. Al Mubarak, the most powerful man involved in the day-to-day running of the club, has even had to delay his annual message to the fans on the club’s website, such is the volume of work being undertaken in preparation for the arrival of Pellegrini and the forthcoming transfer window. At City, the work has only just begun.

Roma, Lazio delegations meet Pope Francis – Football news

VATICAN CITY (AP) Players and officials from Roma and Lazio met with Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on Wednesday in a peace initiative ahead of the Italian Cup final between the two bitter rivals.

The occasion happened during the general audience and is four days before the match at Stadio Olimpico in Rome. “We decided to participate in today’s audience in a public way and not privately because of the need to be among the people to show the fans a sign of humility and a message of calm and respect for your opponent,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito said.

The Pope was given jerseys from both clubs, bearing the name Papa Francesco and No.

1. Roma president James Pallotta also gave the Pope a Boston Celtics shirt.

The American is a minority owner of the NBA team.

“I had the impression that I was meeting a humble man, like any other,” Roma captain Francesco Totti said. “The Pontiff made everyone feel at ease, he communicated confidence and benevolence to me.

Presenting him our club’s jersey was an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Maurizio Beretta, president of the Italian league, presented the Pope with a football and a miniature replica of the Italian Cup trophy.

Pope Francis, who is a football lover and an avid fan of Argentine team San Lorenzo, had a private meeting Tuesday with a delegation from Juventus that included coach Antonio Conte and captain Gianluigi Buffon.

Austria picks Marko Arnautovic despite club ban

VIENNA (AP) Austria midfielder Marko Arnautovic was selected Wednesday for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sweden in June despite not playing club football since being banned by Werder Bremen in April for speeding.

Arnautovic and teammate Eljero Elia missed the last four matches of the Bundesliga season after being caught going over the speed limit on a highway. Austria coach Marcel Koller said he included Arnautovic in the 23-man squad because of “his football qualities.”

“We are awaiting a very important game and we need the best players,” Koller said. “Arnautovic has been punished for what he’s done in Bremen. I spoke with him and told him I don’t approve of his behavior but it wasn’t a bank robbery.

These are young guys … he hasn’t done anything wrong while being with the national team, and I don’t see a reason to change anything.”

Arnautovic has scored seven goals in 26 internationals. Austria will miss suspended midfielder Veli Kavlak for the June 7 game against Sweden in Group C, which also includes Germany, Ireland, Kazakhstan and Faeroe Islands.

Germany has 16 points from six matches, followed by Sweden with eight points from four games.

Austria and Ireland have eight after five.

Austria Squad:

Goalkeepers: Robert Almer (Fortuna Duesseldorf), Heinz Lindner (Austria Vienna), Ramazan Oezcan (Ingolstadt).

Defenders: Aleksandar Dragovic (FC Basel), Christian Fuchs (Schalke), Gyoergy Garics (Bologna), Florian Klein (Salzburg), Manuel Ortlechner (Austria Vienna), Emanuel Pogatetz (West Ham), Sebastian Proedl (Werder Bremen), Markus Suttner (Austria Wien).

Since Jose Mourinho parted company with Chelsea in 2007 and promised to come back, Chelsea fans have watched the clock keenly, counting down his second coming. Within this long period ( to Chelsea fans), a lot of water has passed under the bridge and so many changes have taken place in world football except that Arsenal continues to be trophyless. Manchester has been the biggest beneficiaries of the exit of Jose, whiles the Blue half of the City, who not long ago were languishing in the Championship league have been able to establish themselves as an EPL force winning the title once thanks to the changes in their financial fortunes.

The Red half of the City, in the absence of The Special One have managed to add 3 EPL titles to their cabinet. Nevertheless, with the core of Jose s group we haven t been pushovers and managed to add one League title, three FA Cups, a Europa and the biggest of them the Champions League not forgetting that of United. Since his shocking departure and his promise to come back, years have turned to months, months to weeks and now The Second Coming of the Special One is just a matter of days to happen and be confirmed.

The excitement is all over in the air among Chelsea fans waiting for the hour to arrive. The neutrals and the objective who know how great it is for the EPL, the competitiveness, the thrills and excitement it will bring back have lauded the imminent come back. To be honest since the departure of Jose from EPL and his arrival in the La Liga, attention has shifted a bit to that League which once, people watched when there was an El Classico.

However, to some, who, out of fear of what Chelsea is capable of achieving or becoming under a Special manager like Jose have all of a sudden started running negative commentaries about him to the extent of doubting Jose s capability. It is as crystal clear that to doubt the competence of Jose will be like doubting ice cream is cold.

When Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement, many media houses ran a poll for the United fans to choose the manager they will want to take over and in all these polls Jose was the runaway leader. Today, when it turned out that Jose is heading to Chelsea some of these fans who many find themselves in the media have began talking about the combustible nature of Jose and how he can bring instability to a club.

Some have even said his Madrid stay was a failure someone whose wining percentage stands at 72% with 3 trophies in the wake of Barcelona s hegemony. When a Manager leaves and it is the rival fans who celebrate most, then something certainly does not add up. If Barcelona fans have become the ones who are rejoicing most because of the exit of Jose, then Madrid are certainly at a loss.

And no wonder opposition fans have started showing their fear with the news of the Second Coming of the King. It is also a ploy to shift attention from the appointment of David Moyes who clearly is no match for The Special One. Whether they like it or not, Jose is coming back to Chelsea and he is coming to establish a dominance in the EPL.

It is unfortunate Sir Alex has retired and even with all his experience, he couldn t defeat Jose s Chelsea in any Premier League both home and away. The Red dynasty has ended and in comes the Blue Dynasty from SW6 led by the familiar face, Jose Mourinho Mario Dos Santos Felix The Special One . Welcome home.

THANK YOU ROMAN:

A good leader is someone who listens to the voice of the people and see the merits in it.

Roman Abramovic has once again proven to be the best owner in football. People made a huge meal out of the sacking/mutual termination of Jose Mourinho and his contract that Abramovic never goes back to his words and that his relationship with Mourinho has broken beyond repairs. There again, they have been proven wrong.

I think Roman deserves better praise by all including Eglish Football. Roman has shown the world how to manage a club as an owner. He listens to the fans and he always takes the best decision in the interest of the club and its forward movement.

No wonder every sacking of a manager is followed by a glory. Grant, Hiddink, Carlo, RDM & Just recently Benitez have justified his actions amid dissenting views.

JOB DONE RAFA, WE FORGIVE YOU, GO AND SIN NO MORE

The back-to-back European titles have risen the stock of the club which was nearly dented by our poor performance in the Champions League although not as poor and abysmal as the then EPL champions City who came last in their group and managed to amass the least ever points by an EPL club in the champions League even after Spurs have been a part before. It was clear from the beginning that this year was a transition period and the journey would be a roller coaster although our impressive start of the season gave us a huge expectation which was just a matter of time to be tested.

The sacking of RDM was not something some fans could take lightly although there was a genuine reason to that which is not the subject of my article and will always be there for debate. However the appointment of Rafa Benitez came as a much bitter pill to take owing to his slating of the club and fans whiles he was the manger of Liverpool ( The Historians). Amid heated opposition by the fans which affected our performance at home whiles we won crucial matches at home, the tide had to be turned in order to save our season from crashing.

And when opposition was calmed a bit after his famous rant after the Middlesbrough match, things began picking up. The Bridge which became an uncomfortable ground for the boys became the backbone to our success where score lines in the Europa and FA Cup were overturned. Our success in the Europa, making us the reigning champions of Europe as well as Europa champions concurrently for 10 solid days not 10 seconds is great for our club and more so putting us in the company of only three other European clubs Ajax, Bayern and Juventus to have won all the European club titles.

Not only that, but also importantly, placing third in the League and avoiding any play-offs is something worth praising. So we will say, Thank you Rafa, we forgive you, Just that, we don t need you.

THE FUTURE IS ALWAYS BRIGHT:

This Chelsea side holds so much prospect and there is talent brewing in the team. When Scholes was asked after his last match which players he enjoy watching in the League, he said Hazard and Mata.

According to Rafa the three amigos are bonding well and have great future ahead and it is there for all of us to see. Not only our first team, the players on loan have proven to be bargain and are living up to their hype. Thibaut Courtois, Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Thorgan Hazard, Piazon and Nathaniel Chalobah are making serious progress which make the future of the club so certain.

One person who gets little mention for his great work he is doing for the club is our Technical Director Michael Emenalo. Since he took over, players signed under him which include almost all of these players and the Amigos have proven to be such a great deal for the club and I hope Jose seeing what Emenalo has done will be comfortable to work with him since he has proven to be such a competent person with an eye for good potentials.

So the count down is on, Jose is coming and we await his first press conference, hopefully not too long from now. KTBFFH!

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has Liverpool firmly in his …

Alan Pardew says he is aiming to be grappling with Liverpool next season – and that the Reds should be the blueprint for his Magpies.

The Newcastle United manager is still dusting himself down from the Magpies disappointing low finish in the Premier League.

But he believes that the Anfield club who finished seventh in the top flight this term are the side that United should be looking to emulate next term.

With the Premier League s top five this season seemingly way out in front when it comes to spending capabilities and Liverpool and Everton scrapping away beneath them, Pardew will make his feelings clear in this week s end of season review at the club.

He told the Chronicle: We need to strengthen. Even with our best team out I think we would have finished below Liverpool.

And we want to threaten them so we need to improve.

Newcastle ended the campaign in the bottom five and signed off with a 1-0 loss at home to Arsenal.

United went into the Premier League s finale knowing that they could still have bagged a mid-table finish. Just

a few points separated the bottom-half clubs that avoided the drop.

Pardew said: It is a difficult league.

We could have finished in the top 11.

If you d have said that at the start of the season, and getting to the last eight of the Europa League, you d have said it was OK.

It is just the way we got there was unsavoury, and some of the performances.

The mood on Tyneside is in contrast to this time last year.

Back then Geordie fans were dusting down their passports and looking forward to their first foray into Continental competition for six years.

But Pardew says that United can achieve a much better finish without the difficulties of Thursday night games.

The ex-West Ham and Charlton boss said: I genuinely think that without the Europa League our performances will be a lot stronger.
